From renewable energy ambition to 10.5 MW solar delivery and the top 1% of solar projects in the UK.
Syzygy has recently supported the development and delivery of one of the UK’s largest private-wire commercial solar projects, working with Westcott Venture Park from the earliest feasibility stages through to construction and completion. This project illustrates what can be achieved through the perfect alignment of opportunity, ambition and expertise.
Located between Aylesbury and Bicester, Westcott Venture Park is a 650-acre business park with ambitious plans to reduce its carbon footprint, strengthen its energy resilience and support future growth across the site.
The result is a major new solar installation covering approximately 35 acres of the park.
With an installed capacity of more than 10.5 MW and 14,794 solar panels, the system is expected to generate approximately 10.7 GWh of renewable electricity every year — equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of around 3,000 typical UK homes.
Crucially, the project is expected to generate more electricity annually than Westcott's current tenants consume, even allowing for anticipated future growth.
Turning ambition into a deliverable project
A renewable energy project of this scale involves far more than identifying available land and installing solar panels.
From the outset, Syzygy worked with the client to establish what was technically achievable, commercially viable and capable of progressing through planning, grid connection, procurement and construction.
During the development phase, Syzygy provided:
- Feasibility assessment
- Energy and financial modelling
- Concept design
- Grid strategy and engagement
- Planning support
This early-stage work created the technical and commercial foundations needed to take the project from an initial opportunity through to a viable investment proposition.
From development into delivery
Once the project moved into procurement and construction, Syzygy remained closely involved as the client's independent technical and commercial adviser.
Our role included:
- Preparation of the technical specification and Employer's Requirements
- Management of the tender process
- Contract preparation, negotiation and finalisation
- Independent quality inspections
- Construction monitoring
- Contract administration
This continuity from development through delivery gave the client an experienced independent partner throughout the project lifecycle, helping maintain focus on quality, commercial outcomes and the original objectives of the scheme.
RSK Renewables was appointed Principal Contractor and Principal Designer, coordinating a multidisciplinary delivery team including several specialist RSK Group businesses. CX Utilities delivered the high-voltage electrical works and 33 kV export connection.
The quality of the completed installation was subsequently recognised through an independent audit which ranked it among the top 1% of solar projects nationally.
Generating energy for today and tomorrow
The scale of the Westcott installation means the business park is expected to produce more renewable electricity annually than its tenants currently consume.
Surplus generation can be exported through the connection to the nearby Waddesdon primary substation, while the scale of the scheme provides additional capacity to support future occupier demand and growth across the park.
For Westcott, this is therefore more than a solar installation.
It is long-term energy infrastructure designed to reduce carbon emissions, improve energy resilience and support the future development of the business park.
The value of involvement from day one
Westcott demonstrates the value of taking an integrated approach to commercial renewable energy projects.
By being involved from the earliest stages, Syzygy was able to help shape the project before key technical and commercial decisions were made and then remain alongside the client as those decisions were translated into procurement, contracts and construction.
From feasibility, modelling and grid strategy through to tendering, technical assurance and construction monitoring, Syzygy provided continuity across the full development and delivery journey.

Discover. Develop. Deliver.
Westcott Venture Park is a powerful example of what can be achieved when renewable energy is considered as a long-term infrastructure opportunity rather than a standalone installation.
Syzygy helps commercial property owners and investors identify, develop and deliver renewable energy projects that create lasting value for their assets.
