Syzygy becomes corporate member of Urban Land Institute

1 May 2024 – Syzygy, Europe’s leading provider of embedded renewable energy and low carbon solutions for real estate, has joined the Urban Land Institute (ULI) as a corporate member to further its goal to decarbonise the real estate sector.

The ULI is the largest network of cross-disciplinary real estate and land use experts in the world. With 45,000+ members worldwide, its mission is to shape the future of the built environment for transformative impact in communities worldwide. The dedication of its members and their shared expertise has enabled the Institute to set standards of excellence in development practice.

In a recent EG interview with our founder and CEO, John Macdonald Brown, Syzygy shared a similar goal to establish best practice and lead the way. It is working towards becoming Europe’s leading embedded green-tech consultancy by 2030, delivering low-carbon solutions that are both practical and commercially viable; driving wider adoption of embedded technologies; and supporting clients as they transition their real estate portfolios towards net zero.

Peter Massie, COO of Syzygy, commented: “ULI’s goal is to connect, inspire and lead in solving real estate challenges. One of the most urgent of these is decarbonising real estate and we know how to remove the barriers for developers, landlords, asset managers and occupiers to make this critical transition.

“At Syzygy, we have consistently been able to demonstrate the commercial opportunity – increasing an asset’s value through embedded renewables– whilst delivering net zero. All you need is a robust, commercially focused and deliverable decarbonisation strategy. Alongside ULI members, we aim to make more of a difference in the property sector, raising awareness and providing the solutions that will deliver sustainable, viable and cost-effective projects, in turn ensuring the industry can meet net zero targets. We also see a great opportunity to develop our future leaders through involvement in ULI’s Young Leaders network. Every business in the real estate sector has an obligation to develop Real Estate’s leaders of the future, the ULI provides a perfect platform to do this.”

Sophie Chick, Vice President, ULI Europe, said: “ULI Europe’s commitment to supporting the industry to speed up and scale up the decarbonisation of real estate is a mission priority. We recognise that the industry is a significant contributor to global carbon emissions, and to drive transformation we all need to unite in our urgent response to the challenge. To do this, we are collaborating closely with our members and partner organisations to harness their collective expertise to tackle the barriers to progress and accelerate this transition towards a low carbon economy.

“We’re always extremely pleased to welcome and collaborate with new corporate partners such as the expert team at Syzygy to help further accelerate the pace of industry action on mission critical areas such as decarbonisation. We have some very significant initiatives for our members and partners to consider participating in, such as C Change, which is focused on developing standardised, game changing solutions to climate related transition risks, including carbon pricing, embodied carbon, and energy costs, to tackle the barriers arising from this shift and support the industry in building the business case for decarbonisation.”
